Raising the Profile of International Development

An increasing number of people have contacted me recently about what action I’ve been taking to help alleviate poverty worldwide. Campaigns such as Make Poverty History have put to the fore our moral obligations to help those most in need around the world.

Last year I sponsored Tom Clarke MP’s Private Member’s Bill which sought to improve transparency in where the UK’s aid money goes. And I’ve also taken this opportunity to raise these issues in my questions to Government Ministers. You can see their replies by following the links below.

In the past six months, I have asked parliamentary questions about AIDS/HIV in Senegal and Ugandapoverty alleviation in South America Burma ( here and here), immigration policy towards the Reer Hamar tribe of Somalia, and sustainable forestry and clean water sanitation in Africa.
