I signed the Sikh Genocide Book of Remembrance to commemorate the 1984 Golden Temple Massacre. The Indian army’s raid on the Golden Temple in Amritsar resulted in many deaths and widespread violence against Sikhs. Jeremy Corbyn has stated that a Labour Government would launch an independent inquiry into Britain’s military role in the operation. This is something that Sikh groups have called for since it emerged in 2014 that then Prime Minister, Margaret Thatcher, dispatched an SAS officer to advise the Indian army on removing Sikhs from the temple.
