I held my last advice surgery at the Allendale Community Centre. Sadly, after around 40 years of service to the Byker community, the Centre is closing. I went to the farewell party for Allendale Centre users last Friday to say a final goodbye. The volunteers at the Centre have worked tremendously hard for the local community and I congratulate them for all the voluntary work that has been put in. I am very sorry that the Centre itself has come to an end. It is my intention, working with the Byker Labour Councillors, to transfer the surgery to the Byker Community Centre on Headlam Street. My Byker surgery has been based at the Allendale Centre, along with the Byker Councillors, since I was first elected to Parliament in June 1983, so this has been a long and happy association, and I am personally sorry that it has come to an end.
