I marked Earth Day by continuing my regular meetings with the Climate Action Newcastle group. On previous Earth Days I’ve attended events in Parliament, however, due to the pandemic, this has taken place virtually. At the meeting I explained I still believe that climate change and environmental pollution are the most important issues we face and recommitted to backing a concerted government intervention through a green industrial revolution that acts as the foundation of our economic recovery from the pandemic.

We discussed the new US President’s policy proposals and his increased cooperation with China on the issue, the need for the UK’s global leadership as we move closer to hosting the G7 and COP26 summits later this year. We also talked about the new North Sea Transition Deal and the related Carbon Capture Usage and Storage issue.
