In 2019 Mears was awarded the government contract to provide accommodation and support to asylum seekers in the North East. The contracts are part of the way in which the UK Government meets its duty to provide asylum for those seeking international protection in the UK. I spoke with representatives from Mears about the work they do and the impact of the pandemic on their processes. I continue to take up casework on behalf of asylum seekers in the constituency who need support.
