The Government has announced the priority criteria for the Afghan Citizens Resettlement Scheme, however it hasn’t opened yet. I’m strongly concerned that they have also not updated the number of refugees they intend to receive. The figure remains at 20,000 over a number of years, with only 5,000 this year. My understanding is that the Government has received the details of 174,000 individuals in Afghanistan trying to leave, which includes the details my office has been providing.

I have been contacted by over 35 constituents in relation to over 250 individuals in Afghanistan, I understand this is more than most MPs. Myself and my staff are continuing to work very hard on these cases. I have received no updates on individual cases from the Home Office or Foreign Office yet. The Labour Party and my office continue to press the Government for immediate support.
