I am continuing my support for local Labour Councillors in their opposition to the planned cut of the Q3 bus service between St Peter’s Basin and Wallsend. The slew of service cuts in Newcastle, which has disproportionately hit Walker (where three services have been cut), comes at a time when more people should be encouraged on to public transport to reduce air pollution.

Following the announcement of £163m of funding for the North East through the Bus Services Improvement Plan, I have received a response from Nexus stating that they will look at what they can do for people in St Anthony’s and the surrounding areas. They have said this could be either by funding the restoration of the Q3 or a new service linking the community with the city. I have also raised my concerns about the cutting of the Q3 bus directly with the Transport Secretary.
